A case of a “potential” star

Imagine the case of a young rising talented performer in any sport. The first few feats makes him noticed and then the next few make the world hail him as the next-this or next-that. The accolades, rewards, endorsements, air-time and print-width all follow. But if the person assumes he has arrived, he is missing an important point – that he is being feted for potential rather than established performance. Assuming that he has arrived, he becomes undisciplined and takes his performance for granted, and what is taken for granted eventually slips. The performance does not live up to the initial promise and then the downhill journey begins.
